Hong Kong
As the major gateway into China, Hong Kong is a lively city located at the south-eastern tip of the mainland. This autonomous region covers Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island, the Kowloon Peninsula and 262 outlying small islands. A great number of expatiates from around the globe have been attracted to this subtropical region, mainly due to its vibrant culture, economic significance, and both Chinese and English being the official languages. From exploring the endless variety of local food outlets to bargain hunting in chaotic markets, this bustling city offers you a lifestyle full of adventure.
Visa and immigration
New Zealand nationals whose passports have at least six months validity can enter Hong Kong for a period of up to three months without a visa. However if you wish to stay longer and work in HK, a work permit is required and is subject to meeting all the conditions set out by the Immigration Department.
The Customs and Excise Department also prevents anything that would be harmful to community health and public safety and plays a large role in protecting the provincial borders.
Currency
The economy of HK is characterised by free trade, low taxation and minimum government interference. This has made the Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), the 8th most traded currency in the world. Due to over inflated accommodation pricing, the HK cost of living is considered to be high for expatriates. The affordable cost of food, household items, transport and reliable domestic help however, make this an ideal place to live for many professionals.
Grace has partnered with NZForex to provide you with fee free, convenient and competitive foreign exchange solutions when exchanging foreign currency over NZD $1,000.
