Wellington combines the sophistication of a capital city with the charm of a village. There are no shortage of activities in and around Wellington, from exploring galleries and museums to paddling on the harbour or enjoying the city on bike.

Education institutions

Wellington schools are predominately state run with a selection of private schools and one boarding institution. There are also three universities and three polytechnics offering a wide variety of course for those wishing to study after Form 13 or returning to study.

Getting around

When getting around Wellington you are spoilt for choice, with the CBD having only a two kilometre diameter or a 20 minute walk. Wellington commuters use the Metlink public transport system, which encompasses buses, trains and ferries. Wellington’s most iconic transport, and a popular tourist attraction, is the Cable Car that takes passengers from downtown Wellington to Kelburn and offers some of the cities best views. Wellington is a bike friendly city, making it an ideal mode of transport, with a number of mountain tracks to explore on the weekend.
