Am I covered?

Grace New Zealand Blog

Did you know that many people are under the impression that when using a removals company, all their belongings are covered by the removalists’ own insurance.

Additionally, some people wrongly believe that their existing home and content insurance will cover their items during the entire packing and removals process. Transit Insurance is an area that is often overlooked during the planning stages of a move.

As there are no laws requiring removalists to provide insurance for items during transit, most low cost removalists only have insurance that covers their vehicles in the event of an accident. This type of insurance does not cover any of their clients’ personal belongings that may be damaged or lost during transit.

Professional moving companies such as Grace Removals that are accredited by reputable industry bodies – for instance FIDI & NZOMA – also provide the additional benefit of having Public Liability Insurance and are authorised to provide transit cover insurance for goods being moved as an optional added service.

Transit cover delivers the added comfort of knowing that personal belongings are well covered during the entire relocation process including packing, transit, storage and delivery. As there are a number of different options available for the customer to choose from, it is recommended that customers consider their insurance needs in the early stages of planning when moving house.

You can discuss all the available insurance options with your Grace Consultant during your in-home visit. To find out more about your transit insurance choices, contact us on 0800 472 2369.
