Choosing the right moving company

Finding the right moving company can be difficult, especially because there are countless options and providers out in the market. However, not all removalists are the same, below are some things you should consider when choosing the right moving company:

Experience and Industry Knowledge

The right moving company for you will have solid experience, good reputation and have industry know-how, so you can be assured that your items will be packed, transported and delivered on time. They’ll also work with you along the way to help ease the relocation process and should provide you with the resources you need to help moving a breeze. Make sure you hire a moving company that can cater for your unique needs, particularly, if you have prized valuables or collectibles. They should be able to customise their standard services to tailor your belongings, this includes custom-made crates and other packing materials to ensure that your items arrive with the same quality when it was picked-up.

Accreditation

Before you hire any moving company, make sure you check their accreditations. The New Zealand Overseas Movers Association (NZOMA) is the peak industry association for the nation’s international moving industry. Members of NZOMA must abide by the NZOMA code of conduct “whose objectives including maintaining high professional, financial, ethical and operational standards”7.

Another key quality accreditation is FAIM. This accreditation refers to FIDI Accredited International Mover and is a vigorous quality assurance standard especially designed to benchmark and measure standards for international moving across the world. It is independently audited by Ernst & Young and is a requirement for membership to the FIDI Global Alliance, which is the premier international moving association headquartered in Brussels.

Companies that are members of these associations and hold these accreditations are required to meet or exceed minimum staff training and customer service levels and provide binding consumer protection provisions across international jurisdictions.

Customer Service

While the above are technical factors that are critical when choosing the right moving company, you also must ensure that your key contact and removalist crew have a positive and friendly attitude to make moving enjoyable. The right moving company will also be responsive, helpful and attentive to your needs and will try to ensure that the move is as smooth and as seamless as possible. They’ll also ensure that you receive regularly updates to assure you that everything is under control and running as per schedule.
