Camp Quality Wellington/ Central received one of six Grace Gives New Zealand grants in 2017 to bring fun, hope and happiness to children aged 5-16 years from the lower North Island living with cancer. The charity organise annual Summer and Winter camps, family days and social outings to combine fun and friendship with achievable challenges to foster courage and independence.
Camp Quality Wellington and Central Districts visited Grace’s Christchurch Branch to receive their Grace Gives cheque. Branch Manager, Corie Reid, presented the grant to Camp Quality’s Sarah Beale.
The charity will be using their grant to help support two campers attending the next annual camp where children are provided with therapeutic recreational activities which allows them to regain a sense of normality and the chance to be kids, all while helping families overcome their challenges.
Corie was able to learn a lot about the charity during Camp Quality’s visit, “meeting with Sarah was really a great opportunity to see the work Camp Quality does with children who have faced the challenges of child cancer. I found it interesting that the Camp Quality model is a one to one buddy system where they match a camper who has recently faced the challenges of child cancer with a companion who has volunteered to become their buddy during the camp.”
