Skills Shortage Creates Opportunities

Skills shortages in New Zealand’s mining, engineering, construction and health sectors are creating job opportunities for overseas workers.

According to the New Zealand Association of Migration and Investment (NZAMI), the country is scheduled to have a sustained economic growth of over 3% during the next few years – mainly due to Christchurch’s post-earthquake rebuild, but also due to new housing projects scheduled in Auckland.

“The opportunities are definitely here in New Zealand from construction project managers to civil engineers, brick layers to carpenters and from stone masons to plasterers,” said June Ranson, vice chairman of NZAMI, in an article posted on website ExpatForum.com

According to an article from TheMoveChannel.com, thousands of Brits will leave the UK in the coming years to take advantage of the construction boom and start a new life in New Zealand. The boom is also having a positive effect on the property market, which will lead to further jobs for migrants, the article said.
