New Zealand Is The Place To Live And Work

Grace New Zealand Blog

After recently reporting that New Zealand has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world, now it seems the country also has a better work-life balance.

A new report has shown New Zealand professionals have a better work-life balance than those in most other countries.

The second annual Regus Work-Life Balance Index gave New Zealand 127 points for work-life balance, up one point from 2012. This compares with the global average of 120, the United States’ score of 117, Australia’s score of 116, and Germany’s 101.

The Index tallies the results from surveys of 26,000 professionals in 90 countries, looking at such issues as whether they felt improvements had been made to their work-life balance in the past 12 months, time spent at home with families and job enjoyment.

Mexico, India, Brazil, China and South Africa were only marginally ahead of New Zealand. Nearly 80 per cent of New Zealanders surveyed believed they achieved more at work in 2013 compared with last year, but only 44 per cent said they spent more time working.

In addition, nearly 70 per cent said they were enjoying work more this year, with 74 per cent feeling happier about the amount of time spent at home or with family.

This information correlates with findings in the latest Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Better Life Index report which shows people in New Zealand work 1762 hours a year, slightly less than the OECD average of 1776 hours.

Most importantly, 83 per cent of New Zealanders say they have more positive experiences in an average day (feelings of rest, pride in accomplishment, enjoyment) than negative ones (pain, worry, sadness, boredom), more than the OECD average of 80 per cent.

It’s hard to ignore the statistics, if you want a happier life and a better work-life balance than New Zealand is the place to be.
